Where to Start in 5 Steps

Without guidance and support, transitioning a loved one to a care home can be an overwhelming responsibility. We’re here to ease you through the transition. Below are 5 steps to get you started.

1. Research

In addition to searching homes online, or visiting homes in your neighbourhood, ask friends and family for recommendations. Reputable, caring homes are typically preceded by positive word of mouth within the local community.

2. Call The Homes

Call the homes and share your loved one’s story. Whoever you talk to should be able to recommend homes within their community that may be best suited to your loved one’s needs and preferences.

3. Book A Tour

Nothing beats experiencing a home in person. Book a tour to experience the atmosphere of the home – from the location and interior décor to the personalities of the residents and staff. Ensure that the atmosphere feels right for your loved one.

4. Ask Questions

The tour is your opportunity for one-on-one time with a caregiver of the home. Ask all the questions you can think of to ease your mind. Don’t know what to ask? Refer to our Questions for Care Homes as a starting point.
